“Yes, We Ate Turtle” first went to print in 2012. I can’t believe it’s been that many years already! I had been wanting to do a second edition on it for a couple of years now, and felt very convicted about it during a memorial service, of all places.
My cousin Troy delivered a power-packed message that filled the room with tears of both sorrow and gladness. We were surrounded by easels filled with Kodak memories of a beautiful blonde-haired kid with big brown eyes. Even the last of us who held on so hard to fight back tears couldn’t do it any longer when Troy spoke about his brother Courtney.
We’d lost my Uncle Dave several years before, and it had been really rough on our family. My Dad loved filling in as “Dad” for Troy and Courtney, probably more so to fill the own void he had in his heart for losing his brother. So now our hearts especially hurt for Troy, losing his only brother, and Mary, losing one of her sons.
During his sweet message, Troy held up my little cookbook, put together with love for our family, and said how much Courtney loved it because of the pictures, the memories, and how much he loved us all.
I had tears like I’ve never had tears.
And I made myself a promise.
I knew I needed to go back to the book, fix some of the glitches, get some more pictures, and try to do some more justice to this wonderful family.
And I made my first eBook in the process. A print version will be coming for those that like a cookbook in their hands (I sure do!) but yay, I’m glad i did this.
It will be available this week on Amazon!
