Sauerkraut and Beef Buns

It always amazes me what kids like, and what they don't like. You, my daughters, asked for these by name. Lindsay even requested them when she had college friends over. She either believed they would love them too, or didn't care. These are some darn good buns!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sauerkraut with juice
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Minced onion optional and to taste
  • Bread dough fresh (or frozen and thawed)

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients except dough in large saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat until beef is lightly browned.
  3. Break dough into 12, fist-sized blobs.

  4. Flatten each ball between your hands to about 4 inches in diameter.

  5. Place about ¼ cup of beef mixture on center of each piece of dough, and fold up edges and pinch together to seal.

  6. Place pinched side down on lightly greased baking sheet, about ½ inch apart. Let rise until almost doubled in size (I turn the oven on to 150 and then turn off.)
  7. Leaving the buns in the oven, turn the temperature up to 350 degrees.

  8. Bake until lightly browned. Remove from oven, lightly butter tops of buns.
