Broken and Beautiful

There are few songs that make me cry even THINKING about them. Most are old childhood hymns that bring back memories.

“How Great Thou Art” was my Grandma’s favorite hymn, and I can barely listen to the opening bars and I am already a sobbing mess.

“Abide With Me” is my all-time favorite hymn. I remember standing in a lightly falling snow, holding hands with my friends, singing that acapella while we tearily gazed upon the torn down remains of our old school building. Just a few years later I remember standing with some of those same friends and trying to choke through the verses at one of our buddy’s funeral. He was 23 years old, and had sung with us the first time at the school.

“My Jesus I Love Thee” will always remind me of my mom. She’s alive and well but she tears up when she hears the song..so it makes ME tear up.

“Hark the Voice of Jesus Calling” makes me feel like I need to get off my buns and go help somebody.

Anyways… they are all songs of great comfort to me.

Last night my girls and I heard a much more recent song, but of similar vein, on the radio. It moved us to tears. Well, mostly me. I was tearing up watching them dance around.

It’s called “Broken and Beautiful” by Mark Schultz. It just hit me in a spot I needed to be hit right now, and then watching my daughters move about while they heard it was so sweet.

“it’s beautiful, beautiful
Come as you are
surrender your heart
broken and beautiful”

It was a moment that for me didn’t need a camera, cuz i will always have the memory with me.

Just as I do my Grandma belting it out to “How Great Thou Art.”

Have a great Sunday.
