Weenie Buns

Spam isn’t necessarily everyone’s “go-to food” (and I am saying that with a deep breath of sarcasm) but these little magical creations are quite delicious. Perhaps only in the way that bologna, mustard and cheese tastes good on cheap white bread or strawberry jelly is most amazing with creamy peanut butter. In any case, I loved when my Mom made these every summer. She’d keep a huge batch in the freezer, so they’d be an easy meal anywhere. So they weren’t a nutrition bullet? It was the 70’s and we had veggie salad for that.


  • 1-16 oz can Spam
  • 1 lb Velveeta cheese
  • 4, 8 ct packages hot dog buns
  • Butter


  1. Blend Spam and Velveeta cheese together well (a grinder or food processor works, or just chop finely and mash with your hands.)
  2. Butter inside each hotdog bun, and spread a thin layer of Spam mixture onto each bun.
  3. Wrap each bun individually in wax paper.
  4. Store in freezer.
  5. When ready to eat, bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until cheese begins melting.
