Baking Powder Biscuits

This is an oldie but a goodie! Mmmm good! -Bea Laumeyer


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk


  1. Add salt and baking powder to flour and sift several times.

  2. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until thoroughly mixed.

  3. Stir in milk to make a soft dough and work lightly on floured board.
  4. Roll to 3/4 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  5. Brush with soft butter and bake in a 425º oven for 12-15 minutes. Makes 18 biscuits.
  6. (This recipe can be used to make drop biscuits, just add 2 extra Tbsp milk. Stir dough as little as possible and drop by spoonfuls on a greased baking sheet.)
