Marinara Sauce

This recipe is a combination of the Buca recipe and the flavors I remember from Shakey's. Not bad for a Polish girl!


  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 red onion chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves chopped
  • 2 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp red pepper
  • 1 can beer
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • pinch sugar
  • 1/2 cup olives sliced (if desired)
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped


  1. In a 3 quart saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. Add the onion and garlic. Cook until translucent.

  3. Add remaining ingredients, except basil.

  4. Cook over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring often.

  5. Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil.
