French Dressing

French Dressing

I've never loved this, to be honest! A typical Minnesota salad when I was growing up was iceberg lettuce and French dressing shaken together in a Tupperware container until the lettuce was thickly coated and bruised. It was often shaken out into individual salad bowls before the meal, so it had plenty of time to get warm.

But, a lot of people love it, and I needed some to marinate turkey leftovers in to make the AMAZING turkey salad, so, I made some. Heaven knows, I wasn't going to go buy a bottle and then serve the stuff! This makes about a cup of dressing, which was about perfect for what I needed.

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup light oil
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp celery leaves
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried mustard
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • pinch paprika
  • salt to taste (about 1 tsp)

  1. Process in a blender until smooth. Keeps about a month in the fridge.
